Job Title: Homeroom Teacher
Reporting to: Academic Affairs Coordinator, Director of Academic Affairs

Position Summary:
A homeroom/ subject teacher will play a vital role in shaping the academic and personal growth of young learners. Your primary responsibility will be to create a nurturing and engaging environment that fosters a love for learning and supports the development of essential skills.

Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver engaging lessons based on the AIS curriculum guidelines to meet the educational needs of students at the elementary level.
2. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and active participation among students.
3. Employ a variety of instructional strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities of students.
4. Assess and evaluate student progress through regular formative and summative assessments, and provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians.
5. Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders to address individual student needs and ensure a holistic learning experience.
6. Establish and maintain effective classroom management techniques to create a safe and orderly learning environment.
7. Foster a love for reading and facilitate the development of literacy skills through storytelling, guided reading, and language activities.
8. Integrate technology appropriately to enhance instruction and promote digital literacy skills.
9. Promote character development, moral values, and social-emotional learning to help students become responsible and respectful individuals.
10. Participate in professional development activities and stay updated with current educational trends and best practices including knowledge in implementing MAP Assessments as well as being able to read, record, and explain the results. Data should be used for benchmarking student progress/ concerns.
11. Conform to common core standards, middle states standards, and/ or the MOE standards.
12. Communicate with parents/ families about student progress or concerns both through the school platform as well as parent meetings.
13. Attend professional development sessions including but not limited to after school workshops or Saturday workshops.
14. Attend, assist, chaperone and/or plan school events with the extracurricular activities assistant to ensure the smooth operation of all AIS events.

*Teachers must work closely with their appropriate head of department and if necessary, the Director of academic affairs. They may also work closely with the wellness counselor to ensure the students’ needs are being met holistically.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a specialized field for subject teaching (Master’s degree is a plus).
2. Proven experience working with elementary school students, preferably in a classroom setting.
3. Strong knowledge of child development, educational theories, and instructional strategies.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
5. Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
6. Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
7. Technological proficiency to integrate digital tools into instruction.
8. Strong commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
9. Understanding and adherence to educational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
10. Very fluent or native English speaker. Kurdish is a plus.
