Grades 1–5
Primary School
Strong academic foundations, purposeful exploration, and whole-child development across the elementary years.
Students in Grades 1–5 follow an American standards-based program aligned with CCSS and NGSS while meeting Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Education requirements.
Learning develops knowledge and skills across subjects while encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and confident communication.
Core Subjects
English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies build connected foundations for future learning.
Specialist Subjects
Kurdish, Arabic, art, music, physical education, and ICT broaden students' skills, interests, and expression.
Languages & Local Identity
AIS introduces Arabic beginning in Grade 1, alongside Kurdish and the English-medium academic program.
Technology and Digital Learning
ICT begins in Grade 2, helping students develop digital literacy and the skills needed to use technology thoughtfully for learning.
MAP Growth Assessments
Beginning in Grade 3, students take MAP Growth assessments in Reading and Mathematics. Teachers use this information alongside classroom evidence to monitor growth, identify strengths and areas for support, and communicate progress with families.
Creativity and Student Exploration
Music, art, technology, physical education, and other specialist experiences give students opportunities to explore interests, develop talents, and build confidence beyond core subjects.
Ready for Middle School
By the end of Grade 5, students are supported in building literacy, numeracy, study habits, digital fluency, curiosity, resilience, and the growing independence needed for middle school.
