Kurdish Flag Day

Kurdish Flag Day

On November 17th, the American International School (AIS) embraced the spirit of Kurdish heritage by commemorating National Kurdish Flag Day with a series of meaningful activities. At the heart of the celebration was the raising of the Kurdish flag, a poignant symbol laden with significance. The red stripe on the flag serves as a powerful tribute to Kurdish martyrs, symbolizing the blood shed for the cause. Adjacent to it, the white stripe signifies purity and peace, embodying the resilience of the Kurdish people. In the center, a yellow star with 21 edges represents the sun and holds a dual meaning, signifying Nawroz, the Kurdish New Year, celebrated on March 21st. Completing the ensemble, the green stripe at the bottom represents the lush landscapes of Kurdistan, connecting the Kurdish people to their natural heritage. Beyond the flag-raising, AIS students engaged in educational activities, delving into the profound symbolism embedded in each element. This celebration not only highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering cultural understanding but also showcased the richness of Kurdish identity within the AIS community.
